The Institute of Electrical Science formerly named “EDC Training Center” is located along Street No. 217 (Chamkar Daung), Sambuor Village, Sangkat Dangkor, Khan Dangkor, Phnom Penh, and is under the direct control of Electricite Du Cambodge (EDC). The Institute was built from 1998 to 2000 on an area of ​​33,000 square meters under the loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The Institute of Electrical Science initially organized short training courses for EDC’s technical employees and workers with technical assistants from AFD, and documents and experiments from EDF in 2001-2002.

AFD assigned its second technical assistants to provide training courses on High Voltage Transmission Line System under SOFRECO projects from 2004 to late 2005.

In 2005, a 35-room dormitory was built under the framework of the Asian Development Bank loan No. 1794-CAM (SF), and put into service in June 2006.

The Institute has received permission from the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training through Prakas No. 100 M.L.V.T/Pr.K (លេខ ១០០ ក.ក.ប.វ/ប្រក) dated 10 June 2007, allowing it to organize technical training courses for students of Associate Degree in Electrical Field since 2007.

In 2011, the EDC Training Center was transformed into the Institute of Electrical Science through Sub-decree No. 226 ANKr/BK (លេខ ២២៦ អនក្រ.បក) dated 04 October 2011 of the Royal Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

Since 2012, the Institute has trained 3 cohorts of Bachelor’s degree student in Electrical Engineering.
